Zahra Al Hilaly

Global Youth Representative on the UN Women Generation Equality Core Group

As a 21-year-old first generation Australian from Palestine and Iraq, Zahra is a local, national, and international advocate for gender equality, equitable representation within decision making, and refugee rights. Zahra is currently the global youth representative on the UN Women Generation Equality Core Group, where she is currently working with France and Mexico to deliver the Generation Equality Forum. As a current law and journalism student, Zahra has recognised the fundamental need to ensure that young people, across all intersectional diversities, are centred at the core of decision-making processes. As a result of this, Zahra currently sits on the YWCA Australia Young Women’s Council, is a MYAN Australia National Ambassador, represents Western Australia Government as the state ambassador for young people. As a result of her work, Zahra has been recognised as a finalist for Young Australian Muslim of the Year, 25 Young Women to Watch in International Affairs, and was selected as a global candidate for the World YWCA Global Women’s Leadership Cohort. As a writer and poet, Zahra’s work has also been published by multiple organisations including SBS Australia, Al Jazeera International and Gucci America.
